The Key is a ubiquitous item in the Gauntlet series. They are typically yellow in color and each key can open one locked door or treasure chest. Generally, a hero can hold only a certain amount of keys. They are an invaluable item and can prevent player progress if they run out, forcing a restart. As such, it is advised to always have at least one key in the inventory, if at all possible, at all times.

Both Bomb Potions and Keys take up the same inventory space, so heroes must be cautious about filling up their inventory.
